Gents fifth at first day of SCAC Championships

BLANCO, Texas – The Centenary men’s golf team fired a combined 620 through the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships to finish fifth. The Gents shot an opening round score of 318 and followed with 302 in the second round.

Jamie Gibson led the Maroon and White with a score of 148 through the first two rounds. Gibson shot a 78 in the first round and followed with a season-low score of 70 in the second round to finish tied for ninth.

Larry Balthazar finished one stroke back of Gibson for the two rounds. Balthazar shot a season-best score of 74 to open the Championships and added a 75 to wrap up his first day on the course tied for 11th.

Reese Chance posted a score of 156 to finish 20th after shooting a 77 and 79 respectively. Cory Costanza sits 25th after he garnered a 167 in the first day. Constanza posted a 78 in the second round, which ties for his second lowest score of the season, after shooting an 89 in the first round. Jeffrey Scott wrapped up the Gents performances with a 187. Scott shot a 91 and 96 to finish 27th.

Schreiner University sits atop the team leader board with a 585 with Trinity University in second place with 593. Southwestern University posted a 595 to finish third.

Southwestern’s Connor Murphy leads the individuals with a 142. Redmond Lyons and Kalen Vos of Trinity are tied for second with a 143.

The final round of the SCAC Championships is set for an 8 a.m. tee time on Tuesday, April 21 at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
