SHREVEPORT, LA - The Ladies soccer team mounted a second half rally, but Centenary College (1-2) could not overcome giving up four first half goals in a 5-4 loss to LeTourneau (2-2) at Mayo Field Tuesday night, September 8.

The Ladies fell behind 2-0 in the first nine minutes of the game and then 4-1 thanks in part to a hat trick by LeTourneau’s Keeley Hayden. In the 14th minute with Centenary down 2-0, Hannah Jo Wright took a free kick just right of center 25 yards out and found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half. After two more goals by the visitors, Wright served the ball into the box, and senior Madison Alexander went 1v1 with the keeper and flicked the ball over her head for Alexander’s first goal of the season.

Wright finished the game with a goal, a pair of assists, and four points.

Down 4-2 in the 56th minute, Wright took a free kick from 35 yards out and found junior Marissa Hughes. Hughes scored to bring the home team within one. Stephanie Vana answered with her second goal of the game in the 75th minute to push LeTourneau’s lead back to two, but Hughes scored her Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading fifth goal of the seasoner just three minutes later to drop the deficit to one.

Despite the high-scoring affair, neither team scored in the game’s final 12 minutes.

Freshman Madeline Herr, in her first game in goal for the year, took the loss as she allowed four goals with two saves. Junior Erica Coker played the final 20 minutes in the box for Centenary, allowing a goal with five shots saved.

Bridey Davis (2-2) took the win for LeTourneau, allowing four goals in 10 shots faced.

Centenary College saw themselves outshot 29-12 in shots, but only 13-10 in shots on target.
