SHREVEPORT, LA – The Centenary College women’s soccer team (1-3, 0-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) scored an equalizer shortly before halftime, but Austin College (2-3, 1-0 SCAC) netted two goals in the second half as the Ladies fell 3-1 in the conference opener for both teams Friday, September 11.

"We did not win the performance battle tonight, but this team will bounce back," said head coach David Orr.

With the Maroon and White trailing 1-0 in the 40th minute, senior Madison Alexander attempted a cross right in the box that was blocked. However, the ball squirted to freshman Maddy Brown, who put the ball in the back of the net just left of the penalty area for her second goal of the season.

"It's great to see Maddy Brown get the first half equalizer," said Orr. "She was very calm and poised in her finish."

The Ladies outshot the Kangaroos 11-8 in the first half, including 5-3 in shots on target, but the score remained tied at one into break.

The ‘Roos flipped the script in the second half with a 12-9 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Erin Eckart – who scored her first goal of the season in the first half – ripped a shot from about 30 yards into net to score what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. Eight minutes later, Anassa Tomblin scored an insurance goal for Austin College on a pass from Ashley Rice.

Junior Erica Coker (1-2) took the loss in goal for Centenary, grabbing seven saves for the game. Laura McGee (2-4) captured the win for Austin College, also grabbing seven saves on eight shots faced.

The Ladies return to action for a non-conference tilt at Millsaps on Sunday, September 13, at 2 p.m.
