Gymnastics announces 2016 schedule
Thursday, October 8, 2015

SHREVEPORT, La. – The 2016 gymnastics team, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Jackie Fain, announced the 2016 schedule on Thursday, October 8.

The slate features three competitions against teams who qualified for the NCAA Regionals last season, including #29 Iowa State visiting the Gold Dome on February 13, a meet which includes Midwest Independent Conference (MIC)-foe Texas Woman’s.

“I am excited about our schedule this year,” head coach Jackie Fain said. “We are going up against some really outstanding teams in all three divisions: including teams who qualified for NCAA regionals last year, the reigning USA Gymnastics Collegiate nationals champions in Lindenwood, and three time Division III National Champions in UW-Whitewater. We will also see a lot of competition from our MIC conference rivals, as well as several teams who will be vying for a team qualification to our national championship meet.”

“Competing against the best will certainly give us something to strive for, but will also give us a chance to prove we are able to perform with some of the best teams in the country,” added Fain.

The Ladies will be tested from the onset, kicking off the season on January 8 in Logan, Utah, against #30 Utah State. After a weekend off, the Maroon and White welcome fellow MIC-member Southeast Missouri State on January 22 to open up competition in the Gold Dome. It will be the first of four competitions against the Redhawks, including trips to Cape Girardeau for a dual competition March 5 and the MIC Championships March 19.

Centenary faces a busy end to the month of January, taking part in the Texas Woman’s quad (with Southeast Missouri State and Air Force) on the 24th. The Ladies travel to the City of Brotherly Love the final weekend of January, taking part in the West Chester quad (with Temple and Ursinus) on the 29th.

Centenary closes out the weekend by competing in the Palestra, one of the oldest and most famed arenas in all of collegiate athletics, on January 31 against Penn in Philadelphia.

After a trip to Air Force on February 6, the Ladies finish the home portion of the schedule with a pair of meets in the Gold Dome. Illinois-Chicago visits Shreveport on Monday, February 8. Texas Woman’s and Iowa State visit the Maroon and White Saturday, February 13.

On February 19, Centenary makes a trip to Wisconsin for the Harley Invite – a meet that includes three-time Division III National Champions in UW-Whitewater – before competing in another quadrangle meet at Texas Woman’s on February 27. Besides the host Pioneers, #36 BYU and Temple make the trip to Denton, Texas.

Centenary closes out the regular season with a trio of trips to the “Show Me State.” After they battle Southeast Missouri State, the Ladies travel to St. Charles to face last year’s conference and national champions, the Lindenwood Lions, on March 11. On March 19, Centenary participates in the MIC Championships with host Southeast Missouri State, Texas Woman’s, Lindenwood, Illinois-Chicago, and Illinois State.

The NCAA Central Region competition will be in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on April 2. USA Gymnastics Collegiate National team semifinals and finals, as well as individual event finals, will be at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri, April 8-10.
