GEORGETOWN, Texas – Ladies junior goalie Erica Coker grabbed nine saves during the course of the game, but the Pirates scored the lone goal in the 33rd minute as Centenary (1-11, 0-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (6-7-1, 5-2-1) 1-0 in women’s soccer Sunday afternoon, October 11.

The Pirates held a 17-10 edge in total shots, but the Ladies kept the pressure up by placing seven attempts on target. Southwestern finished the game with 10 shots on goal.

Centenary brought the pressure early, outshooting Southwestern 3-1 in the contests’ first 13 minutes. Southwestern did not even manage a shot on goal until the 26th minute. In the 33rd minute, Ana Gutierrez took a free kick and scored her first goal of the season for Southwestern.

In the final three minutes, the Ladies could not score after a flurry of shots at the Pirates. Freshman Maddy Brown’s header was saved by Southwestern goalie Kylie Hunt. The Ladies took a corner kick that led to shots by Madeline Stokes (blocked) and Hannah Jo Wright (wide).

Coker (1-7) saved 9-of-10 shots faced in goal. Hunt grabbed all seven shots faced for Southwestern.

The Ladies return to action Friday, October 16, against Trinity to start a three-game home stand.
