Turkey, Tumbling, and Teammates: A Thanksgiving Re-cap

Hello Ladies Fans! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of turkey, friends, family, safe travels, and time to relax. While this was a time both you and your lovely Ladies Gymnastics team got to rest, we could not let up all the way! I apologize for being a little late; I had a big math test I’ve been studying pretty hard for. However, I promise to make it up to you with an incredible Gym Talk full of details. Although we had several days off, we did not let ourselves get so full on turkey we started hibernating for winter, we still got to the grind when it came to our gymnastics.

Before we left for break, we all gathered in a circle and said something we were thankful for this year. Most of us said how thankful we were for our sport and our team. It was so amazing to hear how much our teammates and coaches were thankful for their opportunity to still be involved in our incredible sport with such an amazing group of girls. Sometimes, we forget how important those two things are when we hit the daily grind and it is refreshing to take a step back and appreciate everything you have worked for. Having a Maroon Out day turned out to be very appropriate, as we are proud to wear the color for our alma mater. As for me, I am so thankful for the amazing group of gymnasts and coaches we have this year. The whole dynamic of the team could have been so different, but I am so happy to have the people we have this year. We all care so much about our goals and where we want to go. I couldn’t have asked for a better group, and I can’t wait to see what we have in store for us this year. This might end up being my favorite year!

When we set off back to our homes, we already had a practice schedule in hand, even though the break was just a short vacation before we were to start our next three weeks of “Oh my, the semester is almost over!” The short break allowed us to have fewer days on our home equipment, which meant less time adjusting back at Jill’s. This made us have a great practice the Sunday we returned to Shreveport. The atmosphere was awesome in the gym. There is something so special about practicing with a group of people you love so dearly, all of whom share the same love for such an amazing sport. There was lots of laughing and having fun even though we all worked really hard and made sure our assignments were done.

Recently, we read the first half of Energy Bus by John Gordon and wrote a response on it. I wanted to share with our readers a quote I found to be very honest and inspiring:

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have.” – Abraham Lincoln

I like this quote a lot, because it emphasizes the fact that winning is not everything, but you will be honest in the pursuit of winning. It also states how you are not guaranteed to succeed either, but you will reach your full potential in trying. This is so great because gymnastics is not about winning, but about doing your best to reach your goals and trying to reach an ever better maximum potential, or our light.

In other news, we are staring to put routines together, put tumbling passes on the real floor, and perfect skills. We are trudging along at a great pace. We seek to progress fast, but we are worried about the details too. Our next intrasquad will be on Sunday, and it will be great to see how far we have come in such a short amount of time and also how our hard work is paying off. We now have enough routines ready to be able to split into two teams for this intrasquad; Maroon against Black! It will be fun to split into two teams and have some friendly competition too! It might give some people who are showing their new routines for the first time, such as Stephanie, Katie, Mackenzie, and Navia, the incentive to do really good!

Well, I’m off to do some studying for Mineralogy. Wish us luck as we begin prep-week and finals week!
