SHERMAN, Texas – The Ladies got off to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the right foot, thanks to Centenary’s (3-1, 1-0 SCAC) win against Austin College (0-3, 0-1 SCAC) Friday afternoon, Sept.9.

“Not all wins are pretty. We demonstrated that this afternoon,” explained head coach David Orr. “However, we displayed character and toughness to gut out a victory not playing our best. We’ll regroup and learn from this, and I think these experiences can make us stronger.”

Junior Connor Harwood tallied her second goal of the season to open up the scoring in the 14th minute. Senior goalkeeper kept the home team off the scoreboard with seven saves in the first half. She finished with 11 saves in the game.

Coker has 351 career saves to rank third in the record book, 16 behind second place and 29 behind leader Martha Chaney (1992-1995).

Although Austin College’s Ashley Rice scored her first of the year in the 50th minute to tie the game, freshman defender Serena Gallegos netted her first collegiate goal four minutes later on an assist from freshman Olivia Jackson. The Ladies held on for the 2-1 win.

The ‘Roos outshot Centenary 25-10, including 12-7 in shots on goal.

The Ladies return to action Saturday, Sept. 10, against McMurry at 3 p.m. The game will be played at North Field on the campus of Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
