SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies put a pair of shots on goal in the first 20 minutes, but the Bulldogs grabbed both saves and used a late first half goal as Centenary (5-7, 2-6 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Texas Lutheran (6-3-3, 4-2-2 SCAC) 1-0 Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9, at Mayo Field.
After both teams mostly played in the center of the field for the first 10 minutes, the ball found senior Marissa Hughes right post in the 11th. She tried to shoot in far post, but the ball went wide. In the 18th and 20th minute, sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham and Hughes both put a shot on target, but Texas Lutheran goalie Erin Rose (3-3-3) grabbed both for her only saves of the game.
Ladies senior goalie Erica Coker (4-5) grabbed six saves and now has more than 400 stops for her Maroon and White career.
In the 43rd minute, the Bulldogs Jessica Cornado was near the end line on the left and centered the ball. She found Leslie Flores right in front of the goal, and she found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Centenary returns to action Friday, Oct. 14, at Schreiner. The Ladies are the only team to have beaten the Mountaineers in conference play this season.
