Centenary Athletics Announces Staff Additions

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary Gents and Ladies basketball, as well as athletic training, announced the addition of four staff members for the 2016-17 athletic season. Sean Dempsey and Davis Kaplan join the Gents basketball staff, while Brian Koller was named assistant coach for Ladies basketball the upcoming season.

Brent Leiby was named Assistant Athletic Trainer.

Dempsey and Kaplan will serve as assistant coaches on head coach Adam Walsh’s staff for the upcoming season. Dempsey came to Shreveport after spending last season as an assistant coach for the DME Academy, a college preparatory school in Daytona Beach, Florida. He served as head coach for the DME Cavs. He graduated from Le Moyne College with a degree in political science in 2012.

Coach Kaplan comes to Centenary after three years at South County High School in Northern Virginia. Prior to South County, he had a two-year stint as Volunteer Assistant Coach at Gar-Field Senior High School under Hall of Fame Coach Andy Gray. During his years at Gar-Field, the team went 44-6, including consecutive Regional Tournament appearances (a trip to the “Elite Eight” in 2011-12) and a perfect 22-0 home record during those two years.

Koller will serve as an assistant for first-year head Ladies basketball head coach David Foley. Koller most recently served as the Video Coordinator and in Basketball Operations for the Dallas Wings of the WNBA in both 2015. His duties included editing postgame film for coaches and assisting the coaching staff with individual player workouts.

He has multiple years of experience with video, including with Northern Arizona men’s basketball, Indiana State women’s basketball, and Cal State-Los Angeles women’s basketball.

Other experiences include working camps for college basketball coaches such as Doug Bruno, Mick Cronin, Mark Schmitz, and Kevin Ollie. He also served as a Student Assistant Coach for Ivy Tech Community College men’s basketball from 2012-14. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Indiana State, with a degree in sports management, in 2016.

Leiby joined the athletic training staff in the fall of 2016 after having been in the profession for 35 years. He has covered sports from the high school to the professional levels, also working with the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon and the Run Disney groups. Leiby came to Shreveport after spending the last three years in South Mississippi.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Leiby attended York College of Pennsylvania and West Chester University. He is a certified and current member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Leiby has a son, Benjamin, and a daughter, Chapin.

Gents and Ladies basketball both take to the court for an exhibition doubleheader against the ULM Warhawks on Friday, November 11. Tip from Monroe, Louisiana, is scheduled for 11 a.m. The teams open up the regular season November 15 at East Texas Baptist. The doubleheader in Marshall, Texas, is set for 5:30 p.m.
