SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies rallied to win game one, but they fell short in a doubleheader heartbreaker in game two as Centenary (4-12, 1-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) took game one 4-2 before falling 3-2 in game two in eight innings to Austin College (4-16, 1-5 SCAC) Saturday afternoon, March 18.

Trailing 2-0 in game one, Centenary scored all four runs in the fifth for the win. Sophomore Kylie Bradley singled to leadoff the inning and was lifted for a pinch runner, freshman Madison Fremen. Senior Mallory Ford sacrificed, but Fremen went all the way to third when Austin College was slow to react after the out. Sophomore Payton LeBlanc walked and moved up to second on a wild pitch that scored Fremen. Senior Lizzie Moran singled to short, but when the shortstop threw, LeBlanc moved up to third and Moran to second. Junior Anna Dunn hit the ball back to the pitcher, but the pitcher overthrew home plate as Centenary tied the game. However, all runners tried to advance another base and the ‘Roos made an out at the plate.

Now tied, both runners on base scored when Austin College dropped a fly ball.

Moran led Centenary from the plate by going 2-for-3, while LeBlanc had a hit, run, RBI, and two walks in one at-bat.

Nichole Aldridge (4-6), who took the loss in game two, threw a complete game in game one and allowed seven hits and two runs with five strikeouts.

Austin College scored both runs in the first when Beth Massey singled to leadoff the game and moved to third on Emily Low’s double. Cassidy McDaris scored a pair on a one-out double.

Kat Wright (1-5) took the loss, allowing six hits and four runs (one earned) in 4.1 innings of work.

In game two, the Ladies overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits before falling in extra innings. Down 1-0 in the second, freshman Haley Campbell doubled to leadoff the inning, was sacrificed to third, and scored on sophomore Wendy Gillet’s groundout. The Ladies tied the game at two in the fourth when Gillet hit a one-out double and scored on Ford’s two-out double.

Austin College scored the winning run in the eighth. Felicia Rivera led off the inning with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a one-out ground out, and scored on Jordan Proctor’s single.

Aldridge threw the final three innings in the loss for the Ladies, while Tori Herrera (1-9) added the complete-game win for Austin College. She allowed eight hits and two runs in eight innings of work.

Centenary and Austin College finish the weekend with a doubleheader Sunday, March 19. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
