SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ladies reached double-digit wins again thanks to a four-game sweep of the Tigers, taking Sunday’s doubleheader as Centenary (10-12, 7-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) won game one 5-3 before holding out to take the nightcap 3-2 at Trinity (9-17, 2-10 SCAC) March 26.

Sophomore Nichole Aldridge (7-6) pitched the final two innings for her third save of the season in game one and threw a complete game in the second for the win. Sophomore Lauren Beadle (1-1) evened her record with five innings pitched in the first game.

Junior Anna Dunn blasted her third home run of the season in the first inning of the day, her only hit of the game, to jumpstart the Centenary offense on the day.

Despite falling down 3-2 to the Tigers after four innings, the Ladies rallied with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Centenary tied the game when senior Mallory Ford led off the fifth with a single, advanced to second on sophomore Payton LeBlanc’s single, and scored when Trinity threw the ball away. In the sixth, freshman Ashley Albright singled with two outs and advanced to third on Ford’s double. LeBlanc followed with her first collegiate triple to drive in what proved to be the winning runs.

Junior Kelsey Ancelot led the Ladies with three hits in as many at-bats, while LeBlanc went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI’s.

After Beadle allowed a double to begin the sixth, Aldridge took the circle and struck out the side. Five-of-six outs recorded in game were via the punchout.

Trinity answered with one in the second and two in the third for its only lead of the weekend. Hilary Hoffman reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Emily Reed’s single down the right field line. The Tigers also began the third on a Centenary miscue. Rylie Goldwait then stole second and scored on Rebeca Berreth’s double. Berreth moved to third on a groundout and scored on a fielder’s choice that produced no outs.

Katie Castillon (6-7) allowed 11 hits and five runs (three earned) in the circle for Trinity.

In game two, Centenary scored three times in the third and held on for the 3-2 victory. Ford walked to begin the frame, while a LeBlanc bunt single and no outs on a fielder’s choice loaded the bases. After a force out at the plate, sophomore Wendy Gillet flew into her third sacrifice fly of the season to put the Ladies on the scoreboard.

Continuing the inning, sophomore Cassie Gonzales reloaded the bases with an infield single. Freshman Kristyn Peacock singled to right field to drive in two runs for the lone Maroon and White tallies in game two.

Trinity scored one in the fifth and one in the seventh to pull within one. In the seventh, Hailey Wilson singled and a Cameron Lavergne single and an error put the tying runs in scoring position. Reed singled through the right side to drive in a run, advancing to second to put the winning runs in scoring position; however, Aldridge got a strikeout and groundout to end the ballgame.

Katie Glomb (3-10) took the loss for the Tigers in game two, allowing six hits and three runs in seven innings of work.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, March 31, when it hosts Texas Lutheran in a battle for first place in the SCAC. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m.
