Thursday, August 24, 2017

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – In a poll of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball head coaches and released Wednesday, August 23, the Centenary volleyball team is slated to finish eighth in the SCAC for the 2017 season.

“The SCAC is tough competition and we play against some of the top programs in the country,” said Ladies first-year head coach Caroline Carlton. “This poll has no effect on what we do in the gym every day, and we are looking forward to the season with a great group of players.”

The Ladies will be tested early and often in conference play. Six-of-14 matches in SCAC competition (42.8 percent) are against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2016. However, two of those matches will be at the Gold Dome (Trinity October 21 and Southwestern October 22). Only the October 14 match against Colorado College is a true road match.

The Ladies also take on Colorado College at Austin College September 24, while they face Southwestern September 30 and Trinity October 1 at Texas Lutheran.

Other conference matches include taking on Austin College and Dallas in Sherman, Texas, September 23, traveling to Texas Lutheran to take on the Bulldogs (September 30) and Schreiner (October 1), and taking on the ‘Roos October 13 and the Crusaders October 14 at Colorado College.

The Maroon and White host the final SCAC Cross-Divisional of the season October 21-22. Besides taking on Trinity and Southwestern, the Ladies will face Schreiner October 21 and Texas Lutheran October 22.

The annual SCAC Volleyball Championships will be contested among the top six teams in the conference standings November 3-4 at Schreiner in Kerrville, Texas.

Besides conference play, the Ladies host Pelican-state rivals Louisiana College (September 13 and October 18) and Grambling State (October 5). Centenary closes out the regular season with the annual Halloween Tournament October 27-28.
