Ladies Soccer Tabbed Fifth in Preseason SCAC Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – In a vote of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference head coaches and released Friday afternoon, August 25, the Centenary Ladies soccer team is selected to finish fifth in the conference standings for the upcoming season.

The Ladies received 16 points and are tied for fifth in the preseason poll with Dallas. Trinity was tabbed to win the conference, receiving every first place vote and 48 points. Southwestern was picked to finish second, followed by Texas Lutheran third and Schreiner fourth. Austin College in seventh rounds out the SCAC preseason poll.

The 2017 schedule for the Ladies features a home-and-home set-up for conference play. Among the first six games of the season, five will be contested on the pitch at Mayo Field, starting with Austin College September 8. However, the Ladies play five of the final six SCAC contests on the road, with senior day being celebrated against Dallas on Friday, October 13.

Centenary will also play host to the SCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament November 3-5.

The non-conference portion of the schedule features five dates, with LeTourneau coming to Shreveport October 3 and Hendrix visiting October 24. The Ladies take on Pelican state-rival Louisiana College in Pineville October 10.

In 2016, the Ladies finished fifth in the SCAC and qualified for the Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season. The Maroon and White swept Austin College and won games at Mayo Field against Dallas and Schreiner in SCAC action.

Overall, Centenary finished 7-11 – its most wins since the 2011 season.

The Maroon and White will kick off the 2017 campaign next Friday, September 1, when they travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to take on Huntingdon at 3 p.m. on the campus of Millsaps. They wrap up the season-opening weekend in Mississippi Sunday, September 3, against the University of the Ozarks at noon.
