SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies made a little history of their own Friday night, September 15.

The Maroon and White soccer team recorded a tie for the first time in three seasons, and tallied the first scoreless draw since 2008, as Centenary (1-2-1, 1-0-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) and Texas Lutheran (1-3-1, 1-0-1 SCAC) both failed to find the back of the net.

With the tie, both teams remain atop the early regular season SCAC standings with four points.

After Texas Lutheran used a 6-2 shot advantage – and 3-0 in shots on goal – in the first half, both teams were basically even statistically in the second half and through two overtimes. The Ladies may have had the best opportunity in the 88th minute when a ball was put in the box for sophomore Gabby Lovemore, but she struck the shot high in front of the net as both teams went into overtime.

For the final three periods, Texas Lutheran had only a 14-13 advantage in shots while both teams were even with shots on target. Sophomores Olivia Jackson and Betzabet Bravo both had a pair of shots on goal, while Sara Gibbons led Texas Lutheran with four shots on goal.

Freshman Maggie Pitcher grabbed 10 saves in goal for the Ladies, while the Bulldogs’ Stephanie Barrientos stopped seven shots.

Centenary closes out its three-game home stand Sunday, September 17, when it hosts Southwestern. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
