SHREVEPORT, La. – What a way for the Maroon and White to pick up its first program win against the Pirates.

After the Ladies drew a scoreless tie on Friday night, it looked as if history might repeat itself before Centenary (2-2-1, 2-0-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) scored just 1:32 into overtime to knock off Southwestern (0-6, 0-3 SCAC) 1-0 Sunday afternoon, September 17.

Southwestern managed a shot on goal just seconds into the extra session, but Centenary controlled the ball for the next minute. Sophomore Emilee Byrd put a through ball to sophomore Kyra Montes, who beat the keep into the bottom right corner of the goal to give the Ladies a 2-0-1 record in the three-game home stand.

The game-winner was the first score for Montes in her Centenary collegiate career. Freshman goalie Maggie Pitcher played all 91:32 in goal for the Ladies, grabbing five saves for her second collegiate shutout in as many games.

While Southwestern out shot Centenary 22-14, both teams managed five shots on target for the game. Sophomore Betza Bravo led the Ladies with four shots, two of which were on target. Angelica Grayson led the Pirates with six shots, but only one was put on target.

Shay Kana picked up the loss in goal for the Pirates, playing the entire second half and overtime with two saves on three shots faced. Kylie Hunt grabbed a pair of saves in the first half for Southwestern.

Centenary returns to action with its first true road game of the season next Friday, September 22, when it takes on Dallas. Kick off in Irving, Texas, is set for 3 p.m.
