SHREVEPORT – Centenary men's basketball head coach Kevin Johnson has announced the hiring of Greg Wright as an assistant coach with the Gents.

Wright comes to Centenary after serving as assistant coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Okla. He was responsible for pre- and post-season workouts, scouting, academic mentoring, and off-campus recruiting.

“I've known Kevin Johnson for many years and know of his reputation as an outstanding person,” Wright said. “I look forward to working with him and Coach (Lemuel) Jones this season.”

Wright was an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi under Ronnie Arrow for the first three years of the Islander program. He assisted with off-campus recruiting, coordinated workouts and team travel, and directed the Ronnie Arrow Basketball Camps. He has also worked basketball camps at Texas A&M, Northwestern University, University of Michigan, and Creighton University.

“Greg has great experience at different levels of play, and that experience will help us as we move into the Mid-Continent Conference,” Johnson said.

Wright replaces Roy Garcia, II, who left Centenary after two years as an assistant to become a physical education teacher and girls' varsity basketball coach at Mathis High School in Texas.

Centenary College of Louisiana is a NCAA Division I institution located in Shreveport, La. The 2003-04 school year is the first one in which Centenary is competing as a member of the Mid-Continent Conference.
