Gents Defeat Jaguars In Crucial Mid-Con Contest

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary Gents led the entire night, but had to hold on to defeat the IUPUI Jaguars, 67-65, Saturday night at the Gold Dome.

The Gents continued their hot shooting from Thursday night, hitting 59.6 percent of their field goal attempts as they led by as much as 12 points. The Jaguars would not go away, hitting 83.3 percent of their free throw attempts and outrebounding Centenary, 32-20, to pull themselves back within one point late in the game.

Centenary (11-8, 5-3 Mid-Con) had its chances to seal the victory sooner, but the team made only 6-of-14 free throw attempts. Most of the misses came in the second half, allowing IUPUI (13-7, 6-3 Mid-Con) back in the game with a chance to win it on its last possession.

Andrew Wisniewski led all players with 19 points, making 8-of-9 shots from the field. Jarmorrow Moragne scored 12 points, all in the first half, while Michael Gale scored eight of his ten points in the second half.

Rickey Evans contributed eight points, five assists, and three steals. Freshman Joseph Polite made four of his five shots to score eight points, plus he pulled down a career-high ten rebounds.

For the Jaguars, Matt Crenshaw hit all nine of his free throw attempts to score a team-high 15 points. Danorris Harvey scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Brandon Cole added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Odell Bradley, second in the conference in scoring at 23.1 points per game coming into the game, was held to nine points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field. Bradley committed seven of the Jaguars’ 15 turnovers in the game.

Centenary, which has now won 13 consecutive games at the Gold Dome, continues its three-game homestand Thursday night against Valparaiso at 7:05 p.m.
