Shreveport—The Centenary Gents soccer team battled the IUPUI Jaguars to a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods at Mayo Field on Thursday night. The game was the first-ever home Mid-Continent Conference match for the Gents.

IUPUI (1-7-1, 0-0-1 Mid-Con) struck first early in the second half despite being outshot 22-11 by the Gents in the game. Mike Sullivan netted his second goal of the season after finishing a pass from Ricky Del Toro at the 60:17 mark.

Centenary (0-7-1, 0-1-1 Mid-Con) answered with the tying goal with 7:30 left in the second half when senior Garret Pickard recorded his team-leading third assist to set up freshman Alexander Smith. Smith pushed his shot to the bottom-right corner of the goal past IUPUI keeper Drew Deffner to send the game into overtime.

Deffner tallied ten saves in the contest for IUPUI while Centenary’s Stefan Nicola saved four shots including a breakaway by the Jaguars that was thwarted by the keeper.

Centenary will travel to Dallas to take on sixth-ranked Southern Methodist University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Gents return to Mid-Con action on October 5th when the team travels to Valparaiso.
