Saturday, September 27, 2003

Shreveport—Sophomore Stephanie Linz earned 20 kills while making only two errors and setter Becca Moller earned a double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs as the Oakland Grizzlies handed the Centenary Ladies their second consecutive conference loss, 30-23, 30-25, and 32-30, Saturday night at the Gold Dome.

Linz hit at a .545 hitting percentage in leading the Grizzlies to their first victory in nine matches. Along with her double-double, Moller earned seven of her team’s 11 service aces. Heather Lippert led the Oakland defense with four blocks, with Amanda Fowler adding three blocks and Lauren Bramos contributing 11 digs.

Oakland (2-9, 1-1 Mid-Con) and Centenary (5-13, 0-2 Mid-Con) each made eight service errors as both teams took some time getting into the flow of the match. Oakland was able to break away from the Ladies in games one and two to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Centenary came out strong in game three, gaining as much as a five-point lead in the game and serving for the game at 29-27. Even though the Ladies made only four attack errors in that game, the Grizzlies came back and eventually took game three and the match.

The Ladies were led by Kelley Heckman, who earned her fifth double-double in six matches with ten kills and 14 digs. Ashley Templer led Centenary with 11 kills and contributed nine digs, while Tracee Byrd earned ten kills and Kim Gladu added 15 digs.

Centenary will play a non-conference match at TCU on Tuesday, September 30, before returning to Mid-Con play at Oral Roberts next Saturday, October 4.
