Friday, October 3, 2003

Shreveport—The Centenary Ladies soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout en route to a third straight win by downing Alabama A&M, 2-0, Friday afternoon at Mayo Field.

Centenary (5-6-1, 0-1 Mid-Con) jumped out to an early lead when Alabama A&M was called for a penalty inside their own box. Mindi Levinski drilled home the resulting penalty kick to give the Ladies a 1-0 lead just 7:24 into the contest. The goal was the third in two games for Levinski.

Although Centenary outshot the Lady Bulldogs 17-8 in the match, AAMU keeper Priscilla Mensah kept the Ladies from taking advantage by recording eight saves. Centenary keeper Lindsey Stafford earned her third shutout on the year while collecting five saves in the match.

The Ladies could not break through despite placing heavy pressure on the AAMU defense until Kylie Garrett was taken down inside the box to give Centenary another penalty kick. Ashley Grannan drove home the attempt with less than ten minutes left in the game to seal the victory for the Ladies.

Centenary will host Louisiana-Lafayette at Mayo Field on Thursday at 7 p.m. before returning to Mid-Con play next Sunday against Western Illinois.
