Thursday, October 9, 2003

Shreveport—The Centenary Ladies soccer team posted its fourth straight victory on Thursday night at Mayo Field by dropping Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-1. The lone score by the Ragin’ Cajuns snapped a three-game shutout streak by the Ladies.

Centenary (6-6-1, 0-1 Mid-Con) dominated the match in all facets in the early going as they applied offensive pressure to the ULL defense from the start. The Ladies broke through with their initial score just 14:15 into the contest when Sara Thompson lofted a pass over the Ragin’ Cajun back line and Rebecca Wiese placed her shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Louisiana-Lafayette (4-7-1) answered 12 minutes into the second half to knot the score at 1-1 after Kelli Good took advantage of a lapse in the Centenary defense and dribbled into the box before finding the back of the net.

Despite outshooting ULL 17-8 in the match, the Ladies could not solve keeper Anna Brannon as she recorded eight well-earned saves on the evening. Her luck would not last as Rebecca Swilley penetrated the box off a pass from Mindi Levinski and scored the game-winner in the 76th minute.

Centenary keeper Lindsey Stafford collected six saves in the winning effort for the Ladies.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday at Mayo Field when it hosts Western Illinois in a Mid-Con matchup at 1 p.m.
