ELMHURST, Ill. – For their efforts in the past week to extend the Centenary Ladies soccer team’s winning streak to five matches, freshman Rebecca Swilley and sophomore Lindsey Stafford have been named the Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Swilley, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., scored the game-winning goals in both of last week’s victories. Her goal in the 77th minute against Louisiana-Lafayette broke a 1-1 tie and gave Centenary a 2-1 victory last Thursday. On Sunday against Western Illinois, she scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute, helping the Ladies give the school its first-ever Mid-Con victory in any sport with a 4-0 victory over the Westerwinds.

Stafford, from Tyler, Tex., made sure that the Ladies scored more goals than they allowed. Against the Ragin’ Cajuns, the goalie made six saves to keep the Ladies in the match until Swilley scored the deciding goal. She followed that up with a solid performance against Western Illinois, making two saves to record her fourth shutout in five matches. This is the second time this season that Stafford has been named the conference’s defensive player of the week.

Swilley, Stafford, and the rest of the Ladies host Alcorn State in Centenary’s final non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Mayo Field.
