Ladies Volleyball Loses Home Finale To UMKC

Shreveport— The UMKC Kangaroos used a balanced offense, tough serving and solid defense to sweep the Centenary Ladies, 30-26, 30-12, and 30-23, Saturday night at the Gold Dome.

Lindsey Zerr led the Kangaroos with 14 kills and five blocks, and Sara Foster contributed 12 kills, two service aces, eight digs, and four blocks. In game two, Foster connected on all seven of her attacks as UMKC (7-24, 5-8 Mid-Con) made only one attack error and hit .515 for the game.

Angela Melka contributed throughout the match, earning seven kills, three service aces, nine digs, and four blocks. Jenni Watts earned nine kills and three blocks, while setter Kristy Waltemeyer had 37 assists and also added nine digs. Heather Stapleton led all players with 17 digs, while Kim Freeman added 12 digs.

Kelley Heckman led the Ladies with 11 kills and also contributed eight digs. Ashley Templer earned nine kills and Tracee Byrd added eight kills. Senior Casey Varnado, in her last match at the Gold Dome, led the defense with 14 digs, while Kim Gladu added 12 digs.

Centenary (5-26, 0-12 Mid-Con) will finish the season on the road next weekend, traveling to face IUPUI on Friday and Chicago State on Saturday.
