Lady Rebels Hand Centenary Season-Opening Loss

Las Vegas, NV—The Centenary Ladies basketball team fell in their season-opener on the road to UNLV, 77-41, Friday night. The Ladies allowed 34 points off of 32 turnovers while a tough Lady Rebel defense collected 19 steals in the contest.

Centenary (0-1) made good on only 16 of 54 shot attempts for 30 percent and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line while UNLV was 21-of-29 from the charity stripe and shot 38 percent from the floor. The home team also held a significant rebounding advantage at 56-34 with 30 offensive boards.

The Ladies were led by senior Julie Danieles' 14 points on a 6-of-15 performance, including two 3-pointers. Carly Melvin pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in only 16 minutes of work while Alexis Pettway added eight points in the loss.

UNLV (1-0) received key performances from RanDee Henry and Sherry McCracklin. Henry pumped in a game-high 24 points and totaled 11 rebounds while McCracklin also earned a double double with 21 points and 14 boards. Nikki Hitchens was the only other Lady Rebel in double figures as she contributed 12 points.

The Ladies head right back into action as they return to Shreveport for their home-opener against LeTourneau on Monday at 5 p.m. Centenary is 2-0 all-time versus the Division III LadyJackets.
