Ole Miss Seniors Too Much For Gents
Tuesday, November 25, 2003

OXFORD, Miss. – In a game much closer than the final score indicated, the Centenary men’s basketball team led for almost 34 minutes before Ole Miss went on a 20-8 run in the last six minutes to take a 72-60 victory over the Gents Tuesday night at Tad Smith Coliseum.

The Rebels were led by their two senior stars, who combined for 52 of the team’s 72 points. All-SEC performer Justin Reed led all players with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Aaron Harper contributed 24 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

Andrew Wisniewski led the Gents with 21 points, but shot only 7-of-19 from the field. Centenary shot 40.4 percent from the field and made only one of its 11 attempts from behind the three-point line.

Michael Gale made all five of his shots from the field to score ten points, while Ronald Mickel added eight points and five rebounds before fouling out of the game. Junior Chad Maclies led the Gents with nine rebounds.

The Gents were up by as much as nine points in the first half and led 33-27 at halftime. Mississippi cut into the lead and had several chances to gain the advantage earlier in the second half, but Centenary kept making baskets to hold off the Rebels until the six-minute mark, when Ole Miss went on the deciding run.

Ole Miss (1-1) earned a big advantage at the free throw line, as the Rebels made 24 of 31 free throw attempts while the Gents hit 13 of 18 attempts from the charity stripe. In fact, Reed himself went 12-of-14 from the line, almost as many attempts as the entire Centenary team.

Centenary (1-1) next plays on Saturday, November 29, in Austin, Tex., against the Texas Longhorns. That game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast by Fox Sports Southwest and KYLA 106.7 FM.
