NSU Slides by Ladies, 76-70

Shreveport—The Centenary Ladies put together two long runs in the second half to erase a 15-point halftime deficit, but could not hold on as Northwestern State squeezed out a 76-70 victory in the Gold Dome on Tuesday night.

Centenary (1-5) trailed at the conclusion of the first half 43-28 after allowing NSU to shoot a sizzling 50 percent from the field (18 of 36). The Ladies answered the call in the second period and outscored the Lady Demons 9-0 over a five-minute span to pull within four. The visitors pushed the lead back to ten points before Centenary put together a 15-2 run to take the advantage at 65-62 with 2:48 left in the contest.

Northwestern State (3-1) answered with five consecutive points from Diamond Cosby to to regain the lead for the Lady Demons. Centenary was then forced to foul and eventually fell by six points.

Alexis Pettway notched her second double-double on the season as she poured in 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, eight on the offensive end. Holli Wilkins added ten points and Louise Smyth provided a late spark as she drained three trifectas for nine points.

Northwestern State was led by Diamond Cosby’s 26 points on 9-of-18 from the field, including 2-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Amanda Bennett also scored over 20 points as she finished with 23 on the night and added ten rebounds.
