Wednesday, January 21, 2004

Shreveport—Centenary’s Andrew Wisniewski was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s player of the week for the second time this season. The senior guard from Staten Island, NY, led the Gents (9-7) to a 2-1 mark in three games last week.

Wisniewski began the week with a 26-point effort in a 85-71 road loss to fellow Mid-Continent Conference member Oral Roberts. He followed that up with 28 points in a 83-68 conference win over Mid-Con preseason favorite Oakland. In that contest, Wisniewski converted on 9-of-14 shot attempts and nailed seven three-pointers.

On Monday, the Centenary floor leader pumped in 27 points in a 63-57 road win over Conference USA member Houston in which he connected on 13-of-14 from the free throw line, including eight straight in the final five minutes to seal the win. For the week, Wisniewski averaged 27 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

Wisniewski and the Gents are on the road for a tough Mid-Con battle with Valparaiso on Thursday. Tip time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard in Shreveport on KYLA 106.7 FM and over the internet at SportsJuice.com.
