ELMHURST, Ill. – For the third consecutive week, a Centenary women’s tennis player has been honored by the Mid-Continent Conference, as senior Brandy Smith has been named Mid-Con Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Smith, a native of Jacksonville, Tex., won three of the four matches she participated in during the past week. On Friday, she teamed with Christine Majchrowicz to defeat Catalina Villegas and Camila Prado of Northwestern State, 9-8 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point for the Ladies.

At Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, she once again teamed with Majchrowicz to help Centenary win the doubles point, defeating Stacy Gayne and Kayla Dauzat, 8-2. Smith then won her singles match over Dauzat in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to give the Ladies their first victory of the season.

Smith is the first Centenary player other than Anja Schmidt to win a singles match this spring. Schmidt won the Mid-Con Player of the Week award the previous two weeks. The Ladies are back in action Sunday, February 8, against McNeese State at the Centenary Tennis Courts beginning at 1 p.m.
