Gents Fight Off Leathernecks on Homecoming, 78-64

SHREVEPORTAndrew Wisniewski tied his season high with 32 points as the Centenary Gents fought off a determined Western Illinois squad, 78-64, Saturday evening at the Gold Dome.

After the Gents opened the game with three-pointers by Wisniewski and Rickey Evans, the Leathernecks scored seven unanswered points to take their only lead of the game. Centenary then went on an 8-0 run, five of those points scored by Wisniewski, to take the lead for good.

Wisniewski shot 7-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-7 from the three-point line, and 14-of-17 from the free throw line, to earn his fourth 30-point game of the season. He also notched his first double-double of the season, grabbing a career-high ten rebounds, plus he contributed four assists and three steals.

Evans scored 13 points, and Shawn Davis came off the bench to contribute 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Chad Maclies also had two blocked shots to go along with five rebounds, while Ronald Mickel scored ten points, grabbed five rebounds, and had one blocked shot.

Western Illinois (3-20, 1-10 Mid-Con) was led by T.J. Gray’s 19 points and five assists. Gray hit five shots from three-point land to keep the Leathernecks in the game. Bobby Carter scored 12 points, and Will Lewis added nine points and seven rebounds.

Centenary (13-8, 7-3 Mid-Con), which has won 15 consecutive games at the Gold Dome, must try to continue its four-game winning streak on the road with a matchup against Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., on Thursday, February 12.
