SHREVEPORT – The Centenary softball team earned six extra-base hits and Cheyenne Daries pitched a no-hitter as the Ladies defeated Southern Arkansas in their home opener, 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies jumped on the board quickly, as Micah Rhodes drove in Jordan Lansdale with a double in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, Traci Smith hit a one-out double and was driven home by a Lauren Koehn single.

After Koehn’s single, Janis Kelley hit a towering home run to left field to break the game open for the Ladies, 5-0. Freshman catcher Megan Hall started the third inning with a line drive home run to left field, and Centenary (2-4) added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game.

After giving up a leadoff walk in the top of the first inning, Daries did not allow another Southern Arkansas player to reach base. Only two Lady Muleriders were able to hit the ball to the outfield, as Daries struck out six opposing batters in earning her second victory of the season.

Koehn, Rhodes, and Smith each earned two hits, while Smith and Lansdale each scored two runs.

The Ladies will go back on the road this weekend, traveling to the Houston area to face Texas Southern on Saturday and Prairie View A&M on Sunday. The Ladies do not play another home game until March 10 against Louisiana Tech.
