ELMHURST, Ill. - Despite facing tough competition from other basketball players as well as swimmers, divers, and track athletes, Andrew Wisniewski was named the Mid-Con Male Student Athlete of the Month for January.

Wisniewski, a senior guard from Staten Island, N.Y., averaged 24.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game as Centenary went 5-4 in January. He scored at least 19 points in eight of nine games, recorded 20 or more points seven times, and had three games of 30 or more points, all on the road.

During the month, Wisniewski had a stretch of five straight games scoring at least 26 points. Included in that streak was a 13-of-14 performance at the free throw line as Centenary upset Conference USA school Houston and a 30-point effort as the Gents defeated Western Illinois on the road.

He wrapped up the month with an 8-for-9 shooting night from the field against IUPUI, scoring 19 points as the Gents defeated the conference-leading Jaguars. His performances against Western Illinois and IUPUI earned him Player of the Week honors from both the Mid-Continent Conference and the Louisiana Spors Writers Association.

The Mid-Continent Conference awards a Student-Athlete of the Month honor to a deserving male and female student-athlete for their performances in a certain month. This is the first time a Centenary athlete has won this award since the school joined the conference last fall.
