PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. — After struggling to get their offense going in the first game, the Centenary Ladies exploded for 15 runs in the last seven innings of play to sweep the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, 4-1 and 11-1, Sunday afternoon at Lady Panther Field.

It took the Ladies five innings to figure out Prairie View pitcher Natalie Adamson, as they managed only two hits. However, in the sixth inning, two errors set up RBI singles by Janis Kelley and Micah Rhodes and a double by Ursula Maroski to give Centenary a 3-0 lead.

Cheyenne Daries kept the Lady Panthers off the scoreboard until the last inning, giving up only four hits while striking out 15 opposing batters. At the plate, Daries walked twice and scored a run to help her own cause.

The second game of the doubleheader got off to a slow start, as the Ladies scored only one run in the first two innings. They exploded for seven runs in the third inning, with Kelley hitting a three-run home run and Traci Smith adding a two-run double.

Centenary (6-4) scored three runs in the fourth inning, as Lauren Brownlee drew a bases-loaded walk and Lindsey Virdell knocked in two runs with a single. Cathy Byrne pitched four scoreless innings to earn her first win of the season.

The Ladies return to action next weekend at the Crowne Plaza Classic hosted by the University of Houston. Centenary will face Big 12 school Nebraska, SEC power Florida, Big Ten member Indiana, Manhattan of the MAAC, and host school Houston from Conference USA.
