ELMHURST, Ill.Janis Kelley and Cheyenne Daries, who led the Centenary Ladies to a 5-0 record last week, have been named the Mid-Con Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Kelley, a junior from Keithville, La., showed off her power as she drove in several of Centenary’s runs during the past seven days. She batted .563 (9-for-16) with three home runs and 13 RBIs. All three home runs, which came against Southern Arkansas, Texas Southern, and Prairie View A&M, drove in three runs each, and she drove in two runs in each of the other two games.

In the first game of a doubleheader sweep against Texas Southern, Kelley went 3-for-3 with a double and one of her home runs. Presently she leads the team with a .448 batting average, a .931 slugging percentage, 13 hits, four home runs, and 14 runs batted in.

A senior pitcher from Salinas, Calif., Daries made Centenary history as she pitched three complete-game victories during the week. She threw her second career no-hitter against Southern Arkansas, giving up a leadoff walk before setting down the next 18 batters.

In Centenary’s 11-0 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday, Daries struck out seven batters, becoming the Ladies’ career strikeout queen. She saved some of her best pitches for Sunday’s matchup against Prairie View A&M, when she struck out a career-high 15 batters as Centenary defeated the Lady Panthers, 4-1.

Centenary, in its first season in the Mid-Continent Conference, returns to action on Friday at the Crowne Plaza Classic hosted by the University of Houston.
