Centenary Gymnastics Posts Season-Best Score to Defeat TWU

Shreveport—The Centenary Ladies gymnastics team continued its march toward the USAG Nationals by posting a season-best 192.750 while defeating Texas Woman’s University in the Gold Dome on Friday evening.

Centenary trailed TWU after two rotations but used a 48.950 on the balance beam to cut the deficit and then sealed the win with a 48.775 on the floor exercise. Jennie Jackson and Kristina Menne each tied the Centenary record with a 9.900 on the uneven bars to take first place in the category. Menne also ranked first on the floor exercise with a 9.950 and took the all-around with a total of 39.025.

Sarah Ball and Tara Mitchell each placed inside the top three on multiple rotations as Ball finished second on the vault, floor, and in the all-around. Mitchell battled through injuries to place second on the balance beam and third on the bars.

Texas Woman’s University finished just fractions of a point behind the Ladies with a final score of 192.100. The Pioneers were paced by Catherine Rodriguez and Amber McMeans. Rodriguez scored a 9.675 to win the vault competition and McMeans posted a 9.900 to take home first place on the balance beam.

The Ladies return to action on Sunday, Feb. 29th when they host Auburn in the Gold Dome at 2 p.m.
