Elmhurst, Ill.—For the second consecutive week a Centenary player has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Player of the Week. Senior Tony Cardone earned the honor in the second week of the season after fellow senior Jesse Newell was selected as the recipient in week one.

Cardone, a Shreveport native and Southwood HS standout, put together three consecutive multi-hit games for the Gents last week in action against Texas-Arlington and Friends University, and hit a scorching .556 (10-for-18) with six runs scored and four RBI for the week. In a loss to UTA, Cardone went 4-for-5 and scored a run. Later in the week, he went 4-for-5 again, this time with three runs scored and three RBI in an 11-4 win over Friends. He also handled 16 chances without an error while splitting time between shortstop and catcher.

The Gents open a three-game series with the University of Iowa on Friday at 7 p.m. at Shehee Stadium. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
