Shreveport—Centenary Athletics Director Taylor Moore has announced the hiring of Shelley Schneider as head men’s and women’s cross country coach. Schneider replaces Julie Cavalier who coached the Ladies and Gents teams for six years.

“We are excited about getting Shelley on board with her love and enthusiasm for running,” said Moore. “She is an active participant in the greater Shreveport running community and her ability to recruit should benefit from her contacts in that area.”

Schneider is a Centenary alum, former member of the cross country team, and former assistant coach. She is currently a part-time instructor at Centenary in the Department of Health and Exercise Science. In the fall of 2004, she will become a full-time instructor in addition to her coaching duties.

“This is a dream opportunity for me,” said Schneider. “I have a passion, a desire, and a love for running that I want to bring to this program. With the support of the school and the community and a lot of heart from myself and the runners, I believe we can build a successful program that can compete in the Mid-Continent Conference.”

“We are committed to participate in and support all Mid-Con sponsored sports,” said Moore. “I believe this hiring is a step in the right direction for our cross country program and our commitment to the Mid-Con.”

Centenary is a Division I member of the NCAA and the Mid-Continent Conference. Located in Shreveport, La., Centenary is the oldest college west of the Mississippi River and is the smallest Division I school in the nation with an enrollment of 860 students.
