ELMHURST, Ill. – After winning three singles matches in three days, Centenary tennis player Anja Schmidt has been named the Mid-Con Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this year.

The sophomore from Germany started the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mounia Hassib of Sam Houston State in a match that had been rescheduled due to weather. Schmidt came close to winning her doubles set with Heather Kelley, but they lost in the tiebreaker.

On Saturday, Schmidt earned Centenary’s only point of its match against 75th-ranked Texas-Arlington, defeating Marketa Cizova, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. The team traveled back to Shreveport for a Sunday match with Alcorn State. In dreary conditions, Schmidt defeated Jacque Riddle, 6-0, 6-2, leading the Ladies to a 6-0 victory over the Lady Braves.

Schmidt has won all ten singles matches she has played in so far this spring. She and the rest of the team will next play on March 13 in an invitational tournament in Biloxi, Miss.
