Shreveport—Centenary second baseman Jesse Newell has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, and has been selected as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Month.

Newell, Everson, Wash., hit .415 in the month of February, going 17-for-41 with ten of those hits going for extra bases. He totaled 17 RBI on six doubles, three triples, and a home run. Newell hit for the cycle in the Gents’ season-opener and was named Mid-Con Player of the Week for Feb. 16th.

Last week, the senior went 7-for-14 at the plate, including a 7-for-10 stretch in a doubleheader sweep of Iowa. In the two games, he finished 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI and followed that up with a 4-for-5 performance with two doubles and six RBI in the nightcap to earn the Mid-Con weekly honor for the second time.

Centenary has swept the three Mid-Con Player of the Week awards given since the beginning of the season. Shreveport native Tony Cardone received the honor in week two of the season.
