Gents Pound Texas College, 11-2

Shreveport—Centenary starter David Ruffing pitched seven strong innings and the Gents made the most of their scoring opportunities to easily defeat Texas College at Shehee Stadium Friday evening, 11-2.

Centenary (8-11) scored three runs in both the second and third innings to run out to a 6-0 lead and built on the advantage throughout the contest. The final blow was dealt to the Steers in the home half of the seventh inning when the Gents plated four runs on three hits.

Ruffing (3-3) picked up the win after allowing only two runs on six hits while striking out six hitters. Adam Oakley pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game while giving up only one hit.

Designated hitter Jacob Willett led the Centenary offensive attack finishing 2-for-2 with four runs, two RBI, and his first home run of the season. Shortstop Tony Cardone, the new all-time career hits leader at Centenary, went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI and David Kiefer added two runs and two RBI in the win. Senior Jesse Newell belted his second home run of the year and added two runs in his 1-for-4 effort.

The Gents will host #1 LSU in the Christus Schumpert Fair Grounds Field Classic on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
