ELMHURST, Ill. – For the fifth time this spring, a Centenary women’s tennis player has been honored by the Mid-Continent Conference, as Heather Kelley has been named the Mid-Con Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after her performance over the weekend.

Kelley, a sophomore from Georgetown, Tex., went 4-0 in singles and doubles as the Ladies defeated Prairie View A&M on Saturday and Grambling State on Sunday. In both matches, she teamed with Anja Schmidt to win the number-one doubles set.

On Saturday, she won her first match of the year in the number-two singles position, defeating Michele Scurry of Prairie View A&M, 7-6 and 6-1. Less than 24 hours later, she moved back to her normal number-three slot and took out Grambling State’s third player in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-0).

Kelley becomes the third different Ladies tennis player to win the conference weekly honor. Schmidt has won the award three times this season, while Brandy Smith was named Player of the Week on February 3.

The Ladies travel to Ruston, La., for a match with Louisiana Tech on Saturday morning, followed by a match at Alcorn State on Sunday. These are the final two non-conference matches of the season for the Ladies.
