Friday, March 26, 2004

Fort Worth, Tex.—Former Centenary baseball player Jon Marshall was selected with the tenth pick by the Fort Worth Cats in the Central League draft held this week. Marshall played his senior year with the Gents in 2003 after transferring to Centenary from Texas Christian University.

At Centenary, Marshall batted just .222 but was second on the team with 36 RBI at year’s end. The defensive-minded catcher boasted a .993 fielding percentage while throwing out 23 runners in 78 stolen base attempts.

The Fort Worth Club has ten days to offer a good faith contract to Marshall to maintain his reversionary rights. If he is signed, he must be carried by the Cats on its 28-man spring training roster. Spring training begins on April 26.
