ELMHURST, Ill. – Thanks to solid performances both at the plate and in the pitching circle over the past week, Janis Kelley has earned her second Mid-Con Player of the Week honor of the season.

Last Tuesday against Louisiana-Monroe, the junior from Keithville, La., went 4-for-5 in a doubleheader with two walks, a run scored, and two runs batted in. She hit her eighth home run of the season, breaking the Centenary record for most home runs in a season.

After struggling in game one of Friday’s doubleheader against Oakland, Kelley went 2-for-3 in game two, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Ladies a three-run lead. That was her 18th career home run, setting a new school record for career home runs. Also, she pitched three perfect innings of relief to pick up her fourth save of the season, another school record.

On Saturday, she combined with Cheyenne Daries to give the Ladies two shutout victories. She gave up only two hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, picking up the victory in the second game of the doubleheader. In the second inning of game one of the twinbill, she hit another two-run home run, her tenth of the season, to extend Centenary’s lead to 7-0.

For the week, Kelley batted .438 (7-of-16) with five runs scored, four walks, three home runs, and six runs batted in. She had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. She presently leads the Mid-Con in slugging percentage (.677), runs batted in (28), home runs (10), and total bases (63).

Centenary (17-16), presently tied for first in the Mid-Con with a 3-1 conference record, steps out of conference to host Northwestern State (18-18) Tuesday night, March 30, at 6 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.
