Rhodes, Daries Sweep Mid-Con Weekly Softball Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Two of the major reasons for Centenary’s 6-0 record over the past week were honored by the Mid-Continent Conference as Micah Rhodes and Cheyenne Daries have been named Mid-Con Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Rhodes entered the week on a 3-for-26 (.115) slump, but broke out of it in a big way. She hit home runs in each game of a doubleheader sweep over Grambling State, a three-run homer in the first game and a two-run dinger in the second game.

In Friday’s doubleheader against IUPUI, Rhodes hit 5-for-6 in the two victories, going 3-for-3 with a stolen base in the first game. In the first inning of the second game, her hit drove in Katie Harwick for the only run of the game.

That 1-0 margin stood up because of the pitching of Daries, who tossed a complete game. Daries won all four games of the weekend conference series, giving up only one earned run and one walk in 24 innings of work.

For the entire week, which included a victory over Grambling State, Daries went 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA, allowing only 21 hits and one walk in 28 innings of work. Her 16 wins so far this season are the most by a Centenary pitcher in 13 seasons.

Centenary will look to continue the momentum on the road, first traveling to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech in a single game Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Ladies then head to Kansas City, Mo., for another key conference series against the UMKC Kangaroos beginning on Friday.
