ELMHURST, Ill. – After going undefeated in conference play for the second consecutive weekend, sophomore Anja Schmidt has picked up her second consecutive, and fifth overall, Mid-Con Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor.

In improving her spring singles record to 22-2, Schmidt defeated the number-one players from Chicago State (6-1, 6-0), Oakland (6-3, 6-0), and Valparaiso (6-2, 6-0). She also teamed with Heather Kelley to beat Chicago State (8-3) and Oakland (8-2) at number-one doubles.

Thanks to Schmidt’s leadership, Centenary won two of three matches during the Chicago conference cluster, finishing the conference season with a 5-3 record. Schmidt finished the conference season 8-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles.

Unless Chicago State sweeps all its matches in next weekend’s conference cluster in Las Vegas, the Ladies will qualify for the Mid-Con Women’s Tennis Tournament in their first year of competition in the conference. The tournament, involving the top four teams in the conference standings, will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., on April 23-24.
