Indianapolis, Ind. — Despite the 13th consecutive singles victory by Anja Schmidt, the Centenary Ladies lost to the Valparaiso Crusaders, 4-2, Thursday morning in the semifinals of the Mid-Con Women's Tennis Tournament.

The Crusaders jumped on top by taking the doubles point from the Ladies. Rachel Janssen and Jill Dierberg defeated Elizabeth Pitts and Ashlee Mantooth, 8-1, while Monika Danko and Christina Scala clinched the point with an 8-2 victory over Christine Majchrowicz and Brandy Smith.

Centenary earned the first singles point when Valparaiso was penalized for an illegal substitution at the number six position. Dierberg defeated Heather Kelley, 6-0 and 6-3, and Whitney Chada defeated Pitts, 6-1 and 6-1, to give Valpo a 3-1 lead.

Schmidt, the 95th-ranked player in the country, continued her dominance over Mid-Con opponents, defeating Valpo's Mara Sonkin in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). However, Danko clinched the match for the Crusaders by defeating Smith, 6-0 and 6-2.

Valparaiso moves on to Friday's tournament final against the winner of the match between Southern Utah and IUPUI. Centenary finishes its first season in the Mid-Con with a 10-16 overall record.
