ELMHURST, Ill. –With a solid offensive effort that led the Centenary Gents to a spot in the Mid-Con Baseball Tournament, Blake Adkison has been named the Mid-Con Player of the Week for the second time this season.

The senior first baseman from Tyler, Tex., batted .615 (8-for-13) for the week with four home runs and seven runs batted in. He started the week last Tuesday with a 4-for-5 effort, including a solo home run, in a 12-5 loss to Northwestern State.

In game one of a pivotal conference series against Oakland, he hit three two-run home runs, tying the Centenary record for homers in a single game. The third home run came in the eighth inning and provided the Gents with the winning margin in their 12-10 victory.

The Golden Grizzlies started pitching around Adkison, as he drew six walks in the other two games of the series. Adkison now has 16 home runs on the season, second in the Mid-Continent Conference.

Adkison and the rest of the Gents begin play in the Mid-Con Baseball Tournament Thursday evening at 7 p.m. against second seed Western Illinois at Shehee Stadium. Regular season conference champion Oral Roberts will face fourth seed Southern Utah on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., also at Shehee Stadium.
