Gents Slugger Adkison Signs With Royals
Monday, June 21, 2004

Shreveport—Former Centenary first baseman Blake Adkison continues to benefit from his successful senior season. The first team All-Mid-Continent Conference selection and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings all-South Central Region team member has signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals.

Adkison (Tyler, Tex.) batted .395 in 2004 and finished with 16 homeruns and 58 RBI. He ranks in the top ten of seven Centenary single-season records and four career categories despite playing only two seasons with the Gents after transferring from Richland Community College.

Adkison is the fourth Centenary player to sign a professional contract during the tenure of head coach Ed McCann. Overall, 32 Gents have played professional baseball including Cecil Upshaw (Atlanta Braves) and current major leaguer B.J. Ryan (Baltimore Orioles).

Adkison has reported to Surprise, Ariz., where he will play for the Arizona Royals, Kansas City’s rookie club.
