Arkansas State vs Centenary Box Score

Shreveport—The Centenary women’s soccer team won their season opener 3-0, shutting out visiting Arkansas State Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies were aggressive early, scoring almost immediately. Freshman forward Tara Sageser made a strong impression in her first collegiate match, scoring her first career goal, the game winner in the second minute. She led all players with six shots and three points on the day.

Senior Mindi Levinski, a first-team all Mid-Continent Conference player in 2003, gave Centenary a cushion goal in the 55th minute. Her loft on a free kick from the top left side of the box sailed over the head of the Lady Indians keeper. Sophomore Rebecca Swilley added the insurance goal just under 10 minutes later, collecting a pass from Sageser in front of the goal and pushing it into the back of the net.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Stafford led Centenary’s defense, collecting 10 saves and posting her first shutout of the season. The Ladies strong defensive presence forced Arkansas State to consistently take low-percentage shots from a distance.

The Ladies are on the road this weekend as they take on Troy State in the Grambling tournament on Friday.
