Centenary Women Defeat Troy State 2-0 in Grambling Tournament
Files associated with this release: RUSTON— Centenary women’s soccer team continued their winning ways, topping Troy State in their first match in the Grambling Tournament. The Ladies (2-0-0) overcame a slow first half to defeat the Trojans (0-2-1) 2-0. The first half of the contest was even, with neither side fully dominating the match. Although both teams had quality scoring opportunities, nothing materialized and they entered the break in a scoreless tie. Centenary added to their lead seven minutes later as freshman Tara Sageser collected a misplay by the Trojan keeper, dribbled around the confused defense, and tapped the ball home. The goal was her second in as many collegiate appearances. Junior keeper Lindsay Stafford recorded her second consecutive shutout, and has not allowed a goal this season. Centenary’s defense kept Stafford out of trouble, only allowing two shots on goal the entire match. Centenary’s next opponent in the tournament is Nicholls State, who lost to host Grambling 2-1. -30- Troy State vs Centenary (Sep 03, 2004)
