Ladies Shutout on Final Day of UNO Wyndham Invitational

New Orleans—The Centenary Ladies were downed by Troy University and Southeastern Louisiana on the final day of the UNO Wyndham Invitational. The Ladies finished the tournament with a 1-3 mark after losing by the scores of 3-1 and 3-0 on Saturday.

Centenary (1-3) opened the first match of the day with an impressive 30-23 game one victory while hitting at a .345 clip. However, the Ladies were unable to carry that momentum into the final three games as Troy (1-3) discarded Centenary 30-22, 30-26, and 30-16 to take the win.

Kelley Heckman led the Centenary offense with 15 kills in the loss while Tracee Byrd continued to play well, compiling 12 kills while committing only four errors. Emily Longerot came up with a team-high 17 digs in the match and Catey Batte notched three more aces to give her nine on the young season.

In the second match of the day for Centenary, Southeastern Louisiana (4-1) proved to be too much as the Lady Lions sent the Ladies home with a 30-25, 30-20, 30-20 lashing. SLU used a balanced offensive attack, highlighted by Jennifer Jones exceptional play. Jones racked up 11 kills and did not commit a single error. The Lady Lions sparkled in game two, touting a .413 kill percentage while tallying 20 kills and just one error.

Byrd recorded her fourth consecutive match with double digit kills as she picked up 12 on the afternoon. Ashley Templer added 10 kills and Heckman totaled 21 digs on the defensive side for the Ladies.
